Forecast Discussion

Storm total snowfall was generally as advertised, with accumulations of 3-6" common in the Hickory metro northward to Mount Airy. West of that line, 6-10" fell in the Marion/Old Fort-Lenoir/Morganton to Wilkesboro corridor.

Temperatures will come crashing down again tonight under diminishing wind and clouds.

High pressure continues into midweek promoting some moderation in temperatures. A cold front will arrive Wednesday night with a period of light rain that could linger into Thursday morning. It gets colder after that.

What happens next remains in doubt: The front stalls along the coast with some low-pressure wave action occurring along it. The question will be the energetics of the wave action, and will that be enough to throw more moisture back into what will be fresh cold air. We will mention the potential for light snow as a result, but it’s quite uncertain.
